Győr to Host the Third EUHL Series Tournament: University Hockey Unites Central Europe

Győr, Hungary – 5–7 February 2026

University hockey in Central Europe is gaining momentum, and its next major milestone will be the University of Győr Hockey Cup IV, taking place from 5–7 February 2026 at the modern Győri Egyetemi Jégsport Központ. The international tournament, organized by UNI GYŐR ETO HC in cooperation with Széchenyi University in Győr, is an official part of the European University Hockey League (EUHL) and marks the third tournament in the prestigious EUHL series for the 2025/2026 season.

The EUHL tournament series provides a unique platform for university teams from Central Europe, combining high-level sport, international competition, and an academic environment. The first two tournaments in the series were hosted by DEAC in Debrecen and SABERS in Oświęcim, with the Győr event building on their success and taking the EUHL project to the next level. The fourth chapter of the series is scheduled for late March 2026 in Cârța, Romania.

Four university teams from four countries will compete in Győr: home team UNI GYŐR ETO HC, Lehel HC Jászberény (Hungary), Opole United (Poland), and Sapientia U23 (Romania). The tournament will be held in a round-robin format, offering fans three days of intense international matchups.

EUHL representatives emphasize the importance of the tournament series in developing university hockey in the region:

“The EUHL tournament series has become one of the most important platforms for university hockey in Central Europe. It combines sporting quality, international competition, and an academic environment into a unique concept that gives young players the opportunity to grow and compete at a high level,” said *Ľubomír Sekeráš, President of EUHA.
“The Győr tournament clearly shows how university hockey in the region is evolving—both in terms of sports and organization. We are proud that this tournament represents the third chapter of the EUHL series and look forward to its culmination in Romania,” added Peter Špankovič, General Manager of EUHL.

All matches will be broadcast live on mjsz.tv, and professional photography will be provided throughout the tournament, giving fans and media immediate access to high-quality content.

The modern ice arena in Győr is located close to the city center, offering ideal conditions not only for sporting performance but also for accompanying activities. The nearby Győr Zoo, just steps away from the arena, provides a relaxing option for teams during downtime between matches.

The University of Győr Hockey Cup IV reinforces EUHL’s commitment to systematically building a strong, internationally respected university hockey scene, combining sports, education, and international cooperation, stated František Sádecký, Vice President of EUHA.
