Małopolska Winter Cup IV: International University Hockey Delivered Drama Until the Final Second
The fourth edition of the Małopolska Winter Cup IV went down in history as one of the most attractive university hockey tournaments in Central Europe. From the very first day, it delivered a high pace, strong emotions, high-quality performances, and international competition among teams from Europe and the USA.
Opening Ceremony and Day 1 of the Tournament
The tournament was officially opened by the President of the European University Hockey Association (EUHA), Ľubomír Sekeráš, and the President of the Polish University Hockey Association (PUHA), Paweł Dworzak, with a ceremonial face-off. The event once again confirmed the growing importance of university hockey and its ability to bring together student-athletes across countries.
In the opening match, the ACHA team clearly dominated UNI GYŐR, winning 7:2. The second game of the day saw a convincing performance by UHT Sabers Oświęcim, who defeated DEAC Debrecen 5:1.
Day 2: Growing Ambitions and Tougher Battles
The second day brought even higher intensity and more physical hockey. ACHA defeated DEAC Debrecen 6:2, while UNI GYŐR prevailed against UHT Sabers with a 4:2 victory. Every minute on the ice confirmed that the teams were striving for the best possible placement.
Day 3: Dramatic Finale and Great Emotions
The final day of the tournament offered a thrilling climax full of tension. In a dramatic duel, DEAC Debrecen narrowly defeated UNI GYŐR 5:4. This was followed by the grand final between UHT Sabers Oświęcim and ACHA Division II Select (USA). After an exceptionally fast and evenly matched game, the title was decided in overtime, where ACHA claimed victory with a 5:4 win.
Małopolska Winter Cup IV once again confirmed its firm place among the most prestigious academic hockey events in Europe. The high level of play, increasing intensity of the games, and the great atmosphere created by the fans highlighted the importance of university sport and its international dimension.
