SEKERAŠ TROPHY 2026 MOVES TO OŚWIĘCIM, POLAND

Trenčín, April 27, 2026 – From April 24 to 26, the city of Trenčín hosted another edition of the prestigious international university hockey tournament, the Sekeráš Trophy. The event once again confirmed its firm place in the university hockey calendar, delivering three days of dynamic and attractive matches featuring teams from several European countries.

The event brought together talented players representing their universities and clubs. Beyond sporting rivalry, it provided a platform for exchanging experiences, building international relations, and supporting the development of young athletes.

„The tournament attracted many talented players who competed at a high level against both domestic and foreign teams. The event was held in the spirit of fair play, respect, and athletic growth,“ stated Ľubomír Sekeráš, President of the European University Hockey Association (EUHA).

EUHA General Manager Peter Špankovič added: „We successfully built on previous years and once again created high-quality conditions for university hockey. Our thanks go to all the teams, coaches, referees, partners, and volunteers.“

The matches offered a high level of athleticism, numerous goals, and strong emotions, which were appreciated by both fans and the professional public.

The winning team, SABERS OŚWIĘCIM, delivered consistent performances throughout the tournament. The most productive player was Alexander Sadouski (4 goals, 10 assists, 14 points), and the top scorer was Illia Baida with 7 goals.

Special thanks go to the management of the SABERS team, who provided professional conditions for the players throughout the season. Key figures included Marcin Susuł, Paweł Dworzak, Aleksei Trandin, Jolanta Grzywa, Kamil Targoński, and Andrey Sidorenko. A special acknowledgment also goes to the representatives of Małopolska Uczelnia Państwowa in Oświęcim, led by Rector Radosław Folga, for their long-term support of academic sports.

Future in Poland
The Sekeráš Trophy 2026 reaffirmed the importance of such events for regional development and international cooperation. Based on growing interest and the excellent facilities of the winning team, the EUHA leadership announced an important update: The Sekeráš Trophy will move to Oświęcim, Poland, in 2026. This decision reflects the strong fan base and the professional approach that Polish teams bring to the league.

Season Surprise: Opole United
The silver-medal team, Opole United, led by Devin  Panzeca, garnered significant attention. As a newcomer to the EUHL, they created a massive surprise by clinching the silver medals in their debut season. The team, composed primarily of American students, brought a new playing style and energy to the league. Their success is the result of systematic and high-quality work by the entire coaching staff, instantly placing Opole United among the elite of university hockey.

The EUHA leadership, headed by Ľubomír Sekeráš, also congratulated the winning team on their historic achievement. Following their bronze season in 2021/2022, SABERS OŚWIĘCIM have become the overall champions of the 2025/2026 season.
