EUHL AWARDS of THE REGULAR SEASON 2019 / 2020

Like all the other regular competitions in Europe, the seventh season of the EUHL was quite specific. The SEKERAS TROPHY for the university league playoff winner was not awarded. The game for the above-mentioned trophy was cancelled due to COVID-19. Managing body of the league prematurely ended the 2019/2020 EUHL Season after the regular season finished in March.

Winner of the 2019/2020 EUHL Regular Season

Winner of the 2019/2020 EUHL Regular Season and awardee of trophy for the academic master of Slovakia presented by the Student Council of Higher Education is UMB Banská Bystrica – students representing the Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica. 

Question marks hung over the selection of six ALL STARS and awards for best coach or best team manager.  European University Hockey Association (EUHA), the managing body of the university hockey league, selected the best of the best based on nominations submitted by coaches of EUHL University Teams. 

Best Team Manager of the EUHL Season 2019/2020 

TAMAS HORVÁTH debuted in the 2019/2020 EUHL Season managing the Csíkszereda (Romania) team SAPIENTIA U23 and for his outstanding work with the team and within the EUHL received the Best Team Manager of the EUHL Season 2019/2020 award.

EUHL Development

Traditional Prize for EUHL Development was awarded to Ing. etMgr. MILOŠ FIALA PhD. from the Charles University in Prague. Mr. Fiala founded the UK Praha university hockey team and has been a driving force behind the emergence of Czech and European university hockey initiative for organized competition. UK Praha with four championship titles is the most successful university team in the history of EUHL.

Most Productive Player of the EUHL Season 2019/2020

The Most Productive Player of the EUHL Season 2019/2020 after Regular Season was awarded to RICHARD NOVODOMEC /UMB BANSKÁ BYSTRICA/ who produced 27 points (11+16) in 11 games. His effectiveness contributed to the success of his team. 

All Stars of the EUHL Season 2019/2020

Players awarded the ALL STARS EUHL 2019/2020 were nominated by coaches of such  hockey fame as Roman Čechmánek – Olympic gold medalist from Nagano and medalist from World Championships, coaching the newcomer UTB Zlín,  Michal Broš – former representative and participant of several World Championships, coaching the most successful team of the EUHL UK Praha, Braňo Jánoš – participant of several World Championships, Del Pedrick – with vast experience from coaching in Canada or Tamas Groschl – coach of the Hungarian national junior team. Award for the best goalie went to NICOLAS BOSKO /UMB BANSKÁ BYSTRICA/.  Best defensemen awards went to DAVID ARWAY /PHILOSOPHERS NITRA/ a MIROSLAV HABŠUDA  /GLADIATORS TRENČÍN/.  Three best forwards of the season are MATÚŠ TRENČAN /GLADIATORS TRENČÍN/ , DANIEL RZAVSKY /PHILOSOPHERS NITRA / a  PETR NOVÁK /UK PRAHA/.

MVP of the EUHL Season 2019/2020

Nominations for the most valuable player of the 2019/2020 season submitted by university team coaches included several recognizable names:  Rzavský, Mendel, Trenčan, Novodomec, Slánsky. The latter was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the EUHL Season 2019/2020. MARTIN SLÁNSKY /UK PRAHA/ deservedly won for a consistently strong performance in UK Praha and the EUHL representation. 

Best Rookie of the EUHL Season 2019/2020

Best Rookie of the EUHL Season 2019/2020 award with nominations from university team coaches went to ZOLÁN ROTH /SAPIENTIA U23/, who produced 14 points for 7 goals and 7 assists and became the most productive defenseman of the EUHL Season 2019/2020. 

Best Coach of the EUHL Season 2019/2020

TAMAS GROSCHL, coach of HOKIKLUB BUDAPEST was awarded the Best Coach of the EUHL Season 2019/2020 for orchestrating his team´s best success so far – ranking fourth after the regular season. 

EUHA extends warm wishes and thanks to all awardees for representing their universities and is looking forward to resuming hockey games in the eighth EUHL Season 2020/21.
